After driving for a few hours I herd a gurgerling sound comming from the tranny area.

Temp got really high, pulled over and noticed the truck peeing from the back area of the engine all over the steering damper and stuff.

Had it towed home. Blah

Could this be the rear seal perhaps? All or most coolant is gone. It was definatly coolant (nice and green and had that certain smell) Too dark to look for leak location. Anyone with ideas?

97' D1

Horray for Valentines day...

Thanks
N8

First thing I would look at is the heater hoses, they run to the back of the engine, and if you haven't changed them (should be done every 2 - 3 years) then one of them may be your issues.

Thanks Joey

I checked the heater hoses, they are fine.

It turns out to be the water pump gasket right up against the engine block. Pour water in the overflow tank and it runs right back out!

I was quoted 500 - 600 for the job from a local LR shop. Timing gasket

If I do it I might as well replace the pump while at it.
Does anyone know how involved this is for DIY? Any step by steps?

Nice one!

That will work nicely for that part, but I need to get past that!
Just like the picture but into the timing chain gasket back against the engine block. Sorry, I just read my other post and I didnt specify the gasket.

Alltho I will be replacing the water pump sine I will be there.

Will I need to pull the oil pan for that part (the timing chain)? I herd it mentioned

I am sure you can wing it... most tools for the LR except something that calls for the TESTBOOK, can be improvised.

Started working on it the other day.

I found that getting off the radiator fan is a pain without the correct tool. I was getting pretty heated over this stupid thing, even though anyone with experience with this would laugh.

Does anyone know this tool and what size it is?

go to a bicycle shop and pick up a neck and crank tool... put on the fan nut and smack with a hammer.... cost should be under $15... proper tool $50. Or you may be able to borrow it from NAPA... it is a clutch fan tool.
