I am new to the forum but have been checking it out for some time now. I have questions I hope to have answered, hopefully they haven't been answered and it appears to me they have not yet been asked by anyone else...so here goes.

2001 Discovery, Series II, with almost 40,000 miles.

First, the whining sound. It's pretty loud, and only gets louder as I slow down, and grows even louder when I turn the wheel. Power steering reservoir is full, that was my only guess really. Any help on this matter would be much loved...I'm almost to the point of writing words to the melody it makes when turning.

Second, lift. I lifted my Jeep, that was easy. The Discovery has the SLS though. Can it be done without totally screwing up the SLS system? If so, please let me know.

Third, wheels and tires. If the lift is pricey and complicated I still want to raise the vehicle slightly through an increase in size of my wheels and tires. I'm sure someone has figured out what size combination works well without detracting from ride quality, tire rub and reliability. Also, I have some "Michelin 4x4 Radial X" tires on right now. They look to me like they are more for a total street car than an SUV, but I do have to say they are quiet. Again with tires, I'm looking for something that will go offroad that 5% of the time I go off, but also don't make a whole lot of road noise like the A/T tires on my Jeep do. Any advice would warrant a highfive.

Last, and definitley least, lights. I'm not looking to ghettoize the Rover, but spruce it up maybe. I think anyone with a 2001 like me is somewhat envious of the '03 and '04 headlights and wants to do something to make it better looking. It seems there are no resources on the web for making this a reality.

Much love.

Sounds like it may be the Idler pulley for the s-belt

Yes, you can do a 2" lift up front and get some different brackets for the SLS creating a 2" lift in the rear, or just remove and install Springs.

I personally like the Bridgestone A/T Revo's myself... they work well for off roading and make a great on road tire. Most people I talk to prefer the B/F Goodrich A/T's, but I don't like them myself (personal preference)

As far as I know you can't swap the '03 + light into a older D2, but I am sure for the right money anything can be done.

actually the light swap is quite possible, although it is not cheap. To get the right fit you have to also replace the front bumper and do some triming to the headlight "craddle"...long story short, it is definetly not a plug and play swap, but it is possible. Unfortunately I have no info or websites for you, but I have seen posts on D-Web regarding this. Good luck

Joey, thanks a mint. Highfive to you. You guys gave me a nice starting point to work with, now hopefully the dudes here at Virginia Beach know what the hell they're doing when they start fiddling with the LR. Thanks again.
