I recently had my dashlights go out along with my right side tailights.
I did have headlights, signals, left hand tail/marker lights, brake lights and red back up lights.

Here is what I found on my 96 Disco 1.
- fuse #8 blown
- rear marker light in bumper , bulb socket corroded
- front marker light, bumper corner, socket had shorted out, noticably burnt.

Replaced both sockets, new fuse and all was well again.
The shorted socket on the front marker light was the problem.

I am posting this because when I was searching the forum for my problem all indications were pointing to light switch. This was not my problem.
Just trying to help the next guy in need.

similiar problems

i had similiar problems with my 98 disco. My problem was no dash lights when headlights were on but i had dash lights when the running lights were on. I also had no running brake lights at all. I had a bad headlight selector swith. Which you don't need to pull the steering wheel off to replace. Just use a flathead to seperate the old one from the bracket that goes around the steering wheel. but be very careful because that plastic can easily crack. then just slide the new one in. that solved everything!!!

with this issue the best place to start is with sockets (as you discovered) - if that does not work - go further back (up the wiring harness) from questionable socket.
