I have a 1999 disco 1 with 81000 miles on it. I just had the head gasket replaced by a local mechanic and now the discovery jerks as it shifts (this did not occur prior to the mechanic working on it) and then after driving at 55 mph I experienced a gradual loss of power and BING went the check engine light and the disco just slowed. I pulled over, popped the hood and notice the air filter was not buckled down, and while buckling that down, I noticed the mechanic had also forgotten his screw driver and had left it under my hood. Once the air filter was properly latcherd down it drove fine (knock on wood), but the check engine light remains on. I took it back to the mechanic who checked the code for the check engine light and it was an "unidentifiable" problem?? My question is, during the install of the new head gasket what could have happened that would have caused that? Was it the air filter not being properly latched?? Perhaps a fuel filter issue? Is there a problem with my car, or is there a problem with my mechanic???
