Hi everyone,

I just purchased a 2004 Discovery II and I have a bit of an issue that just started happening maybe someone can help me with. The car has 80,000 miles and has no mods that I know of.

My car came with a smart key and a regular key. I gave the smart key to my wife and I use the regular key. She locks and unlocks the car with the security fob/smart key, which works fine. I use the regular key and lock and unlock the vehicle with it... until now.

My key no longer locks and unlocks the door. There is no resistance when turning it in either direction. And no reassuring "clunk" noise letting you know the car is armed and locked, or open. So the only we way we can gain access or lock the vehicle is with the security fob/smart key. (Her key doesn't work manually either... only with the buttons.)

Let me say that both keys work in the ignition and the car starts and runs fine, with the exception of locking the door with the key, which neither key will do.

I expect this is an issue with the door handle/locking mechanism. (have heard the term "door lock actuator" used on the web.) Any idea what is wrong and what it will cost to fix?

Thanks in advance,

Tom
