Yes, I think that is the way it goes. You replace the existing plastic with the laminated wood stuff.

I know Matt got his and was planning to install it soon, maybe he can let us know how simple it is and supply some before, during and after pix!

FYI

They quoted me $795 plus core charges for the 3 piece kit of the center console and the left and right air vents. Since LR charges $835 for this, it's basically a no brainer.

Jeff
I agree with you on the quality of this kit vs LRs, however , LR gives you the outer vents and I think the lower part of the console (cup holder/ shifter portion) as well . With that said I would go your route and add more later. Keep us posted on the install.

Cheers,
John

How difficult is it to install? Do you remove the existing plastic and replace it with the woodgrain, or does it go on top of the OEM dash? I guess I'm asking how much time would it take for a novice to put this thing in, and is there a high possibility of screwing up the existing dash and the new stuff if you don't get it right?

Well i got the Whole Package today
1) The 8 Peice Woodgrain Kit For An HSE
2) 2 Peice Steering Wheel
3) Shift Knob

First I Unpackaged Everything layed it all out and then went about taking the original dash apart, this is wear it gets scary they tell you to just grab and pull it right off, but it was nerve racking to pull the dash apart on my brand new 56k LR3... But i did it any way and it was as easy as what they said, each of the air vents pop off, then you have to unscrew the cupholder on the left and screw it into the woodpeice snap back in the air vent then put in back on the dash, the same with the left one just this time it is screwing on the lighting switch, each took about 10 minutes. Next up was the dash, This was a little hard because i would pull but it didn't seem to want to pop off so i pushed a small screwdriver up under and it seem that ontop of the snaps that hold it on there are these 2 big peices of foam with what looks like to be electrical tape on top so they stuck and were no rattles, after a few more minutes that was off, poped off the 2 air vents and then when i got the woodgrain peice i saw that they had the foam with tape too, so you pull off the top and the pop in the air vent peices and snap the whole dash back on... push a little and it is so tight looks like it came from the factory that way, 500 % better than the factory stick on kit...

Next up for me was the cup holder and around the shift knob peice, this is were it got difficult, first there is the black peice around the shift knob that pops off then the grey plastice around the terrain response and shift knob, that pops off then just like the dash there are about 4 metal brakets and some of the foam take, so you just pull a little and it all pops off, then you have to feed the other 2 plastic peices through the hole in the big peice pop in the new woodgrain peice and it looks amazing, i will try to post pictures here soon, this part took about 15 mintues for the dash and 30 minutes for the cupholder part... Next up was the shift knob, I pushed down and turned to the left and when i did so i heard a big snap, i just said what the heck here the plastic peice that extends from the shift knob snapped in half, so there is a 6 inch peice of plastic that broke off and fell down into the car, so i guess i am out the $100 deposit on this item, but then i realized i couldn't move my car and it was stuck in park, so for the next hour i fooled aournd with 2 peices of wire and finally grabbed onto it and pulled it out, and when i got it out i saw that the peice was defective and had 2 crakes in it and i broke it on the 3rd crake that was in it, so i called up my dealer and told them what happened and they agreed front me the deposit if i brought the broken peice over and showed they the crakes so i will do this tomorrow... but here is where is got fun, I opened up the box that was labeled LR3 Wood Shift Knob and they had screwed up and put a Range Rover Shift Knob in that box so now my car is not drivable for at least the next 2 days because i called the company but they were closed for the day so i e-mailed them and will call tomorrow telling them to send out the new shift knob overnight so i can drive my car... (i will let you know what pans out)... so after all of this it was onto the steering wheel, being the bright 20 year old college student i am i could not get it off no matter how hard i tried so once i get my new shift knob installed i have a buddy who owns a shop and called him up and he will do the wheel... once this is all done i will post pictures...

I will wait till i hear from them about the shift knob before i package up the factory peices and mail them back so i can get back my deposits...

Overall i would say the install is easy if you just have a little patience and are comfortable taking apart for $56k Car's dash : ) the only hard part was the cup holder assemble but the total time i would say was about 1 hour... the 4 door switches only took like 2-3 mintues each... The Wheel is a different story but my buddy says most people have them installed and don't do them themselves...

So other than my defective Shift Knob everything was ok... once i get than put on and the wheel i will post pictures...

Let me know if you got any more ?'s

The Quality is 500% better. LR does not give you the cup holder/ shifter portion only the 3 dash peices... I can tell you this looks just like wood out of a Range Rover, Not too much/not to little and doesn't look out of places like those stick on kits... Plus it is all protected so no scratches, marks, etc.

I would defentally go with this route because if you can't afford it all at once like i did you can do it in steps... Plus they offer 4 color choices...

Bought my 2006 LR3 HSE just before Thanksgiving, WITH the Factory wood kit that the dealer was supposed to install.

Day of pick up they called me to tell me that the glue used to affix the wood kit has been recalled and they cannot install it until they get the ok.

It's been 10 weeks now and they say that they still don't have the new glue to make it happen.

Anyone else run into this problem?

The dealer has been great to work with, but this seems a little odd. The kit is already paid for, as I got a discount on it via the Ford 'Z plan' as long as I purchased it with the vehicle.

At this point I am not looking to get a refund and look elsewhere, but just wanted to see of anyone else is hearing this same problem.

Thanks

Jeff
I am waiting on the same trim kit installation. Purchased with vehicle, but service
department says exactly the same thing. No estimate on when it will be available either. (I bought at Tacoma, WA dealer)

The factory woodgrain kit is also availible through www.roverconnection.com cheaper than what the Dealers price is, if that is the way you want to go...
