... Strong acceleration is nice to merge into traffic, passing, and just general fun. In city driving, it is actually pretty useful.

Agreed.

Houm! That is EXACTLY what I did in my OP. The bulk of my OP was a comparison between the off road capabilities of my Tundra, Titan, and LR3. It is not like I started a thread on drag racing a Titan vs. an LR3.... So not to be argumentative or a hair splitter myself, but you already have the comparison you are now asking for.

Cheers

Yup, that was pretty clear to me.

I did think the LR3 was pretty peppy...until an Armada smoked me at a traffic light one day. Damn him. :bandit:

I hope they put the supercharged engine in the LR3. The RR Sport is on the LR3 frame (but a more narrow body it seems) so the platform can take it. Since most of us spend 99% of our time on the road, that extra "ummph" would be nice for me. However, unless I end up with a host of mechanical issues, I am happy I made the move.

Thanks for the nods Todd.

Cheers

The titan is too fast, the LR3 is too fast, IMO. Maybe I'm just used to the old rovers. 0-60 in two or three minutes

I agree 100%. My opinion here: "Sport" Trucks with overkill horsepower are purely a marketing plan on wheels. To suggest that something so big and heavy is going to be as tossable as a "sports car" is crazy and very inefficient from an engineering standpoint. If someone enjoys the look and on-paper hp ratings of these vehicles, that's great-but we just need to keep it real here-

Plenty happy with the acceleration in the LR3 HSE but then I'm almost always in Sport mode and my last vehicle was a 1998 Discovery. All relative, I suppose. Never actually tried it, but my salesman said to put it into rockcrawl mode and then punch it at a stoplight to really see it take off. Anyone want to take one for the team and try it? At least I think he said "rockcrawl". May void your warranty!

If he said "rockcrawl" he was way off. Rockcrawl reduces throttle response and retards the shifts to reduce slippage on steep/loose surfaces. "Sand" seems to add some pep tho. None of them are enough to make you want to always stay in anything but normal in daily situations.

This is not too good nor too exciting as it is my first experiments with video editing software. This is just a 2:17 video of the day. I have much more video from the trip and will post more of it and other escapades when I get time and better at editing. Sorry for the Utube quality, it started off as DVD resolution.

Worrying about an LR3's 0-60 is like worrying about a Lotus Elise's angle of attack.

Not true. You still have to merge with highway traffic in an LR3. Heavy traffic and short ramps creates a use for acceleration. There are many more valid instances, this is just one. In every day life, no one has to worry about angle of attack.
