I got the first scar on my Discovery 4, and it did not happen on any off-road adventure. Here's what happened:

My usual set-up for Sunday morning motocross :hello:

Except this time I was hauling my new hitch carrier (not the first time) and the bike fell off :ahhhhh:

I wasn't going fast (probably 40 MPH) but I still dragged it for a couple of yards before I moved as out of the way as possible. :creep:

Nothing happened to the bike but as it fell off, the exhaust leaned against the tail gate:

The Land Rover dealer quoted US$450 for the repairs :stupid: so I'm getting separate quotes from local body shops.

In the mean time, I modified the hitch carrier to hook a tie-down strap from the foot peg backwards, so the bike can't fall off forward (like it did) and I'm all set to go off to the track tomorrow:

Oh no! Are you going to take it into the shop to get fixed? Sorry to hear about the first scar, but glad it was not more damage. Keep us posted!

It's going to the shop. Still don't know if I'll take it to the dealer or somewhere else. $450 seems too much for the paint job.

450 sounds fair. I can see a dent and some scratches. Doesn't hurt to get a couple more estimates. Good luck.

$450 is a steal!!! I had just a scratched tail gate on on 05 Durango, no dents, but that was $600-$800... and not even a dealer job!

Where I live, I'm thinking it'll be closer to $1000 if it is done right.

Based on your responses maybe $450 at the dealer, which should ensure right color and correct assembly of parts isn't too bad. I'm assuming they would take the tail gate cover off, fix the dent and paint the entire part.
