Is there a way to test the connection to the fuel injectors to see that they're getting the impulse to squirt?

Like hooking up a LED or small bulb or volt meter to the plug?

The factory manual is useless when it comes to diagnostics.
(Yes I know there is a electronics diagnosics manual out there I just don't know where to get one)

I've got spark and fuel pressure and before I go and buy a new ECU I'd like to specifically narrow down the fault.

Backstory: '95 Disco reluctant or impossible to start when hot. Runs OK otherwise. I have 35 lbs of fuel pressure at the rail and bvright spark at all the plugs when I try to start it hot.

Sounds more like a fuel temp sensor than an ECU. But that is just my thoughts...

Engine fuel temperature sensor (EFT Sensor)

This is another resistive sensor. Located on the fuel
rail it measures temperature of the rail rather than the
fuel. The resistance varies with changes in
temperature. The signal is used to increase the
injection pulse time when undergoing hot restarts.
When the fuel is hot, vapourisation occurs in the rail
and bubbles can occur in the injectors. Increasing the
pulse time flushes the bubbles away, and cools the
fuel rail with fuel from the tank. The fault may not be
evident to the driver, there may be a hot restart
problem. The fault is indicated by illumination of the
malfunction indicator light (MIL) on North American
specification vehicles.

Fuel temperature sensor
The fuel temperature sensor is inserted in the fuel rail
and measures fuel and fuel rail temperatures. During
engine cranking at high temperatures, the ECM
increases fuel supply, and opens the throttle disc via
the stepper motor to aid hot starting.

Why not take it into a knowledgiable Rover shop and let them hock up to your engine management system, they can tell real quick what is causing this problem for you?

In regards to the FTS: I disconnected it and it had no effect ill or otherwise. I checked my fuel pressure at the rail and it actually went up as the truck sat hot. Up to 40lbs it only gets as low as 25-27lbs if it sits for a while and I get 35-37lbs when the truck runs. (Of course the truck may do what it does because it doesn't have a functioning FTS to tel the ECU to do what it is supposed to do when it it's hot????????)

As far as knowledgeable LR specialists: I took the truck yesterday to British Car Repair in Inglewood CA.
Considered one of the best in the area as well as a dismantler with a large stock of used spares.

He said it was the ignition control unit/ amplifier "It's the first thing we swap out when we have a hot start problem, Your getting no spark."

Well i get great spart. On all cylinders. I checked.

I'm reluctant to put in the new part as it's 195.00 and I can't return it if I put it in.

Thank you guys for all your input.

$6500 Takes it home today.
95 Disco 165K Clean in and out and everything else works.
New Michelins and recent tune including O2 sensors and Coolant temp sensor.

Let me know
