new plugs/wires
recent sea foam x3 treatment
trans fluid ok level
recent oil/filter change
I recently went on a 4x4 trip and upon returning had new front tires mounted. and we all know what happens after your car comes back from a multipurpose garage (ahem...Firestone..)..something totally no related on the car breaks down.
I have never had any transmission probs until last week after getting back from the trip and getting new tires. after a morning startup and approximately 8 minutes down the road, the D1 shook and then couldn't exceed past 1800 rpm/30mph. if i floored the gas and held it at 1800rpm in either drive or neutral, the shaking would intensify and the drivers side of the engine would start knocking. also a smell similar to "burning" a clutch was noticible. during my 4x4 trip i had used the center diff lock a few times so i feared that maybe I had damaged something or maybe something didn't go back when i switched back to unlocked high however after rocking the D1 (drive/reverse, d/r, d/r......) the engine caught again and ran smoothly. I then drove the D1 on another 1000 mile road trip which included long idling waiting in NASCAR traffic. still no probs until four days later and the above prob has repeated itself two times now--like before after rocking car and playing with diff gear stick it goes back to normal
i am guessing the transmission is slipping however i am pretending it isn't and i was hoping someone has experienced this and has some advice or magical, easy, solution. the trans fluid level is fine. due to raod trip have experienced numerous flips between 10%ethanol / 87 octane and straight 87 oct partial fillups. also the auto transmission has not been subjected to damaging water submergion
please help
