I am looking at a 1997 discovery that has been built up. It has less than 3000 miles on a rebuilt 2002 range rover 4.6 engine and transmission (rebuilt at landrover). Also has new driveshaft. It has a 3" lift with new suspension last year, front and rear brakes and 33" tires with 3000 miles on them. Full grill guard and it looks like all the exterior guards and running boards have been rhino plated. The paint is average for its age and the body has no rust or dents. It is missing the rear seat and the front two are cloth. Headliner is pretty ragged and missing in one section. I totalled the receipts and there was about 9k in work and parts done to it last year. It is also a manual. They were asking 10k but are good to sell it to me for 8k. Odo says 174k. It was in excellent mechanical condition on the test drive. Everything electrical works as well. The guy I am buying it from is a mechanic and a friend of mine.

Good deal or is this too much considering age of vehicle? I see used ones with all original equip, low miles and better interior shape but still stock for similar price.

Thanks

Well considering most of the upgrades add zero value, the only one that sounds good to me is the engine and transmission, but unless this vehicle is outside of the USA, I don't know of any LandRovers with Manual transmissions after D1's i.e. 99 MY.

Also for 8k you can buy an 01 or maybe an 02 if you look hard.

The upgrades will make it nice for offroading, but that really depends on if you plan to drive it off road...

By the way welcome to the forum.

Sorry the engine is out of a 2002 range rover the transmission is the cars original but was rebuilt and installed at the time of the engine rebuild and installation.

I drive a volvo s60 that I plan on driving until it croaks. I have been looking for a land rover to pull my boat and for hunting. And beach driving/off roading.

This truck would save me money from what I would put into a stock disco but for the money I could get a newer one. I would even pony up 16k for a low mileage 2004 if I found the right one. This one just seems to be ready for what I would want it to be.

if you are planning to pull a boat, I would opt for one without the lift and larger tires, unless the installed 4.1.1 gears as well. Stock gearing will just about be useless with 33 in tires.
