Going w/a friend for some fun . . . anyone got some enjoyable but not over-challenging trails for some beginners?

There are not any real tough trails. You can head over to Brooklyn mine or do Berdoo Canyon. Out in the BLM mining district on the north side of the park there are more challenging trails.

6. Covington Flats Drive (21.6 miles)
7. Geology Tour Drive (17.1 miles)
8. Joshua Tree National Park Geology Tour (11.5 miles)
9. Old Dale Mining District Drive (23 miles)
10. Old Dale Road (25.8 miles)
11. Pinkham Canyon Road Drive (20 miles)
12. Pinkham Canyon Trail (21.5 miles)

Brooklyn Mine Road, Berdoo Canyon and Old Dale Mining District are good the rest are mostly just wide dirt roads.

The NPS site will have any primitive roads on its website but thats just inside the park. http://www.nps.gov/jotr/index.htm

Ended up doing Berdoo Canyon . . . nothing hard but fun and good for a fist timer!!
Now I can see how one catches the bug . . .!!

Glad you had a good time. Now get out to Cleghorn and Willow creek. Great pratice trails.
