Got my first land rover last week, an 04 bonatti grey disco SE7. At the dealer I started it up, and the rear brake lights remained lit. The salesman had the brake light switch/senser reset immediately. Now less than a week later, I'm having the same problem. I called the dealer who said that I would have to bring the car in to have the problem fixed, but because I am away for a while with the car, on a driving trip, annoying everyone behind me, I'm curious if any of you can help me fix the problem on my own. Thanks!

Skikid,

Are you near any Rover dealerships on your trip?
I would not be messing with anything on your Rover when it is under warranty.
Just my humble opinion

I'm nowhere near a land rover dealer, so as my duty to not **** off every car behind me I think the problem should be fixed right away. The problem is I have no idea how to fix it, and would like to know how.

Congrats on your new truck. Would they not tell you how to reset it over the phone?

I'm not familiar with the newer Model but I would guess that if you pulled the fuse for the brakelights it would reset it and did you check to make sure it wasn't the rear fog lights your talking about?

Good luck

the dealer refused to tell me how to fix the problem over the phone, and I am positive it is the brake lights that remain lit whenever the car is on, even if i'm not braking.

Thanks for all of your help and advice. I tried the fuse thing but that did not fix the problem. Thanks anyway.

Same thing happened to me about a month after delivery. To confirm it was my switch, my tech guy said to try the cruise, if it was not working, then it was definitely the switch. Also, it is a self setting/adjusting switch, you can pull the plunger all the way out then apply the brakes, it may fix it. You'll need a fastener puller, to release the lower panel above the brake pedal. The switch is about 1/2 way up the pedal arm. Mine was the switch and not the adjustment. I'm 250 miles from my dealer, so I opted to buy the switch (approx $20.00)outright rather than making the lengthy trip for such a quck fix. They mailed it to me and I replaced it in about 10 min. The switch releases from its bracket with 1/4 turn. Very simple. Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot john! I just got back from a long driving trip in the disco, and now I know why the criuse control wasn't working!! I brought the car to my local dealer this morning and got the problem fixed on the spot, no problemo.

I was tooling around with the center locking differential to drive over some very large snow mounds and noticed that the diff lock light remained lit when i unlocked the center diff. I fixed this by 'unwinding' the trannsmission by driving in reverse. Why does this happen?

It's normal for the center diff lock to act like this. The way the gears fit together causes this. Usually it will disengage when driving forward in a straight line after just a little bit.
