Knob on shifter

I was just wondering if anyone knows if the shaft and knob are replaceable. I had and accident on Saturday night and I broke off the knob off. I’m hopping that it can be replaced with out having to take the whole thing apart. Does the shaft screw out?

If anyone can help me out that would be wonderful!!

Ok, well I guess I didn’t explain my problem very well Disco & Joey. I broke off the knob from the shaft. So there’s like a ¼ of inch of the metal shaft in the knob. So what I was hopping was the shaft would unscrew from the bottom assembly. Then I could just buy a new shaft with the knob attached to it and just screw that in. If I can’t do that, does anyone know how I can replace it before I JB weld it back together?

Thanks for your responses so far Joey and Disco

Not sure about how it comes away from the gear box, maybe someone else knows. It would probably be easier to just re thread the existing shaft.

BTW, how did you manage to break off a piece of the shaft? I've never heard of that being done before. We are talking about the gear shift lever and not the transfer box lever.

Well to make a long story short I had some drunk buddy’s with me. One was ******* me off so I slammed on the brakes to get out of the rover. When it came to a stop I grabbed the gear shifter and just threw it into park really hard and that’s when it popped off. Yes, I was ****** and the adrenalin was pumping. I guess I just don’t know my own strength. It was totally stupid on my part and I guess I’m paying for it now lol.

Ok, enough of the story telling someone suggested that I take it to a welder. How will the welder be able to weld the part of the shaft that’s still in the knob?

I’m going to give the local Land Rover parts dealer a call and find out what he things. I’ll let you guys know what I find out.

Thanks for the responses everyone and if anyone else has any thoughts into my problem please let me know. I’m going to wait a couple of day before I do any quick fixes.

You guys have a great week
