Taking my new '06 HSE into the dealer on Monday but wondering if anyone has had this issue. When going over a bump/pothole on the right side, I am getting a knock or creak from the right rear - not sure if inside or out. Also occurs like a groaning when turning into my driveway, a steep right hander uphill. It's not the cargo cover or seats making the noise. The sound is more solid than a rattle. I realize that the subleties of this may be difficult to explain!! Any thoughts? Thanks and ciao.

is your spare tire tight? Is there anything lose in the rear storage areas inside the sides of the truck?

Empty out your truck and tighten everything down as nwoods said, then try it again and see. Or have someone drive while you locate the noise.

I have the same thing in my 06. Dealer has tried 3 times and said they can't find it. I am starting to wonder if it is the glass roof?

I have this also on my 06.

OK, bear with me, this is how it sounds as best as I can describe it. It sounds like a hard object hanging on the end of a cord, that whacks against a panel when the right rear of the truck goes over a bump or a rough surface. I'm sure that's not what it is, but hopefully that helps describe the sound. It is definitely from the right rear.

I emptied all the stuff out of the compartments, and I drove around a bit with the rear compartment cover raised, but the sound continued.

I'm going to have my wife drive me around this weekend while I sit in the back and try to locate it. It always happens now, it doesn't come and go, so hopefully I can nail it down.

I sure hope it isn't the glass roof. That sounds hard to fix.

kind of a popping sound...thought it was the shades but have had all of the latches replaced and still get it. tried the seats up and flat and same thing. I swear someone in a thread on Edmonds had to have his roof re-glued.

I found this on the Edmunds site, as you mentioned:

"I too have had noises from the back of my '05 LR3 now with 11k miles. I had two distinct noises one from the tailgate and one from the roof.

The tailgate was only audible at low speeds and sounded like a muffled metalic rattle. This turned out to be an adjustment was needed to the little wedge looking things that are on the upper tailgate. This took 6 trips to the dealer to fix.

The roof noise sounded like an acorn had fallen on the roof at the back of the car. This usually happens when the car is heating up. After two months in the shop the dealer finally removed the fixed glass roof panel and replaced it. Supposedly the glass was incorrectly installed at the factory and when it expanded during heating, it would hang slightly and then release which made the bang. However when the dealer reinstalled the headliner none of the over head lights work, there is a loose cable in the roof which now rattles and the second sunshade won't stay closed. My advice learn to love to rattle."

My "acorn" sound has nothing to do with heating though - it happens 100% on every bump of the right rear. Could still be the glass alignment I guess.

I like the acorn description. Mine seems to be a very large acorn. From what I see dealers don't put forth much effort to find rattles and noises unless you pressure them.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. We've been snowed in here for the past few days so I canceled the appt. with the dealer. Hard to sort out all the various sounds while driving around in the slush! It doesn't sound like the top glass and it's not acorns. Got a hot tip from "johne" from Washington on the Disco3.UK - NA site. "knock was right rear too exactly as you described...sounded from upper half of lift gate when going over rumble strips or uneven pavement (forcing torsional twist of body against lift gate)...dealership tightened the struts and strikes on both lift gate and body...haven't heard it since." I'm on a mission!! Have rebooked for next Tues if I can't solve it or track it down with girlfriend driving with me in the back seat. Scary thought in this weather - snowing again! Ciao.

Well, I think I have the same sound that you describe. Mine is very intermittent though. I've had my 06 for a couple months and heard it 5 times maybe. I think it occurs when I am turning but it has been very infrequent. It sounds like a loud bang. Like the tire kicked something large up into the wheelwell or like someone hit a hammer back there. I also do not have the rear sunroof so I think that rules out that possibility. If it happens again I'll try to pay more attention and see if it is in a turn, etc...But if you find the answer to yours please post back. Thanks.
