Howdy!

Newer owner & first time poster. I purchased my 16 LR4 HSE back in January and have put just under 5k miles on it. While changing the oil at 3k, I noticed a leak in the power steering line near the "U" turn on the passenger side of the steering gear. Then on a recent road trip I noticed the volume in the reservoir was approaching the minnum line. Reading the service manual, i'm confident i'll be able to complete the job myself. But I do have a few questions and I'm hoping to recive some assistance. I'm planning to do this job durring the next oil change

Are there other jobs i should do while in there?
Any tips or tricks on removing the lines and fluid?
Any special tools that are nice to have?
Is this the correct pressure line? (https://parts.landrovercary.com/oem...SQ4_8LUBOHWS9mm1LMUxp4qxYyYR_kt-zFnE_jW5QgRcr)

Please see the pictures below, and thank you for reading!

Nice rig. How is your project going? I have a seeping leak, not dripping so I'm planning to replace one of the fluid lines but it doesn't look like that one. The way I verified the correct pressure line was by matching the path of the tube I need to replace in the future to the available pressure lines from Land Rover.

@DaddyStovePipe

Greetings and I hope all is well.

I am rebuilding my power steering system and wondering how your project is going and if you have any lessons learned.

The Attached photo is what the hoses and all looked like when we were tearing down the engine and whatnot (so we had pulled out the entire front end including bumper, grill & assembly, radiator, condenser, etc).

Hey @powershift & @Land Rover Joe

I hope you both are doing well! I ended up purchasing a replacement line but haven't installed it yet. I cleaned the area and it seems to be a very very slow leak. I put about 10k miles last year and didn't notice any further leakage.

If either of you completed the job how did it go? any issues or tricks leaned?

Cheers.

Thanks @DaddyStovePipe ,

The build went well and no issues with power steering, although I had everything replaced.

Here are some of my thoughts from your previous post -

Q: Are there other jobs i should do while in there?
A: Always....

Q: Any tips or tricks on removing the lines and fluid?
A: Nothing for fluid but my lines were easy to get to because we had pulled everything out. Because the space is so tight in there, it is always nice to make room. There is a lot of plumbing down there which can be really confusing.

Q: Any special tools that are nice to have?
A: No, but are you coming from below / under the engine? If so, do you have a lift? I imagine doing this on the ground would not be much fun.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Mine stopped seeping. Not sure if its weather related because when it was seeping it was summer, 120F and offroading with lots of steering input maneuvering around at low speed. If it repeats this summer (its already 99F atm) I'm thinking its heat related and maybe I need to add a power steering cooler to prevent further problems? It could also just be a bad line and it doesn't need a cooler but I've had cars with boiling power steering fluid and it can be a problem when it boils out the cap and all over the surrounding area.
