OK I keep reading about the convention on diff locks. what does locking the center diff do? Does it lock up like say...a Detroit or does it lock the transfer case so power goes to the front and rear evenly. I am so confused about this dangfangled awd system. I have owned a lot of 4x4's in my time but none have confused me like this 1.

Basically you start with (if a D1) three open diffs, when you lock the center diff you have equal power to front and rear.

Keep in mind adding a little brake with tire spin will also assist in any bad conditions.

Most modern 4x4's are not much different unless you order them with limited slip rear ends.
