Plugs, Wires, Air Filter, Fuel Filter, All Fluids being changed, Changing S-Belt, and all hoses.

At least that is what I concider a major Tune up... Total cost for all the above if you DIY. No more than $250

Just do not go to the dealer. They charge $120 just to change the fuel filter!

What is the mileage on your truck? Are you also looking to do the drive line service also, will you be doing this yourself??

All,
At the land rover dealer here in NY they are asking $835.00 for a tune-up.
I've been thinking of trying to do it myself, but I should try to figure out what and how to do it before I brake something.
I mean really, does'nt $835.00 for a tune up sound steep?.
At that price I gota learn!!

Chris,
How many miles on your truck, will determine what cost you are looking at.
If you are at all mechanical and want to blow off part of a Saturday, you can save moe then half and do as good a job or better using better parts.

Mike,
I have a 1996 Dicovery SE-7 with 105,000. Im a little handy when it comes to mechanics, but not as much as I would like! If I had some instruction Im sure I would do well. When you say better parts would you say original LR parts or others?

So here goes, if you decide do do it we can talk and I'll be glad to walk you thru it.
At you mileage you are going to have a long list of stuff to do, more then the dealer will do but very necessary. By the way, I have been in the automotive industry for 27 some years, most in service.
List to follow is based on the idea that all needs to be done unless some item was done in the last 15,000 miles.
All fluids, brake, steering, diffs, t/case, coolant and tranny.
Transmission service
Tune up plugs, plug wires, air filter, cap and rotor if you have a distributor,
o2 sensors if you really want all your old power back
Belts and hoses
Fluid additivies for power steering, coolant, transmission, diffs and t/case
All filters
Stuff like that, looks like alot, will take a little time and your truck will be so much happier.
By the way, how long has it been since you changes out your springs and shocks?
Get back to me.

Mike,
Thanks for all your help, since there's a lot of work that needs to be done we "could" or "should" brake it up into a couple of weekends and we can do what would be most important first and work our way down, If you have the time to give me some help with this I would appreciate it greatly. I feel that everything that you wrote is right on the money and should be done, if you let me know what to get and it will be got.
Really thank you for all your help! you can reach at this address so we can touch base [email protected], I look forward to hearing from you.
Chris
Thanks again...
