Parked the disco 2 outside for the past couple months and low and behold it's missing! History: 2003 with 83,000 miles no salt very clean, just did head gasket job 3 years ago with all new gaskets top end, new STI wires ,platinum plugs, blah blah blah. Since the top end job I've only put on 700 miles locally in the 3 years.
So I scanned it today and it has a misfire #6 and random misfire code. So I waited till dark and started it and popped the hood. Boy what a light show! The left bank looked dark except for a slight arc around #1 plug. The right bank was multiple arcs mostly down around the plugs where the plug meets the boot and meets the cyl. Head. By this time the motor was warm and after a short ride it quit missing. But was still arc-ing faintly. So it looks like a wire problem but how can STI wires go bad after just 700 miles and sitting in heated garage for 3 years?
Has anyone had problems with STI WIRES? They look to be a failed piece of crap product and I'll never buy them again. What are the best wires for the disco 2 ? Also could it be a bad ground on engine?
Thanks for any input.
