Alright so I've completed a little testing.
We'll call this the before.
Conditions:
103° F Ambient Temps
Wind 250° at 7 mph (Crosswind for both directions of travel, so it shouldn't have much of an effect)
Car at operating temps (Checked oil and coolant temps)
Front + rear climate control set to Auto 74° F
2/3 tank fuel
65 MPH (Traffic Permitted Faster Speeds)
Cruise Control on for the entire highway loop, mostly eliminating the human factor
The route was 4.3 miles each way, and I did a run in both directions. There is about a 100' elevation difference. So about 23' per mile elevation change. Flat basically.
I accelerated to 65 mph, turned on cruise control, and then reset the cars trip computer. Both runs were completed without any traffic conflicts.
Run 1
4.3 miles - 19.0 MPG
Run 2
4.3 miles - 21.3 MPG
For an average of 20.2 MPG
The MPG actually isn't bad on the highway, but I usually don't drive that slowly (That's slow here in AZ)
Throwing in the side streets I used to get to the highway I averaged about 15 mpg. Didn't take care to carefully note that though, since there are too many variables. But that's close to my average all time MPG.
