Let me introduce myself - married with 2 children and a passion for unreliable cars (Alfa Spider, Alfetta Sedan, Alfetta GTV, Jeep Cherokee, Discovery I - the Spider was the most reliable '76 - it was 20 years old when I bought it).
I live in Dubai so driving in the sand and mountains is the where I take my 2nd hand Disco a couple of times a year. The first trip got stuck 10m from the car park - no power to the wheels. Automatic transmission was worn out and needed to be replaced. Another trip crossing the mountains fuel was leaking out on very steep climbs. Even broke my front brake line .....
Anyway found a good garage and now at least it does not break down all the time - now it is great car to drive !!. My wife drives it all the time around town. Hence the comparison with the Volvo.
