OK, I'll be the loser to ask... what benefit is there to "hacking" into the NAV?

DISCLAIMER: I've had the LR3 HSE for only 2 weeks now and have found the NAV to be somewhat more difficult to deal with than my Volvo NAV (or a Garmin iQue 3600 I had before). However, I do like having a touch-screen (as on the LR3), whereas controls are on the back of the SW for the Volvo. But the LR3 system just seems to be more complicated. We drove from NY to Portland, ME last weekend and the NAV was helpful, but there was one screen that I could not change to my liking: while driving the guided route, the right-hand of the screen has three horizontal bars with some numbers... seems to be route options, but all I wanted to do was to clear the RH of the screen so that it would show more of the map. Before someone says it... yes, I will read the manual again.

Will "hacking" make it easier for folks to change screens options?

Thanks

Have you noticed that most of the buttons are locked out (grey) when the vehicle is moving? The hack prevents that.

And yes, you have a few different options for how NAV alerts you of an upcoming turn.

I guess nobody reads the full threads. One more time:

"With this PIN code, you temporarily disable the safety lockouts of the Navigation system.

Many features of the Navigation system are disabled while moving for safety purposes. For example, you can't enter a new address via touchscreen keyboard. Some of the locked out features make sense... you really can't enter a full address by hand while driving safely, etc. But some of them are dumb.

The worst part of the lockout is if I have a passenger. They should be able to use the system fully. With this diag PIN code, they now can."

Regading the features and display modes, I suggest you read the manual. It'll get you going if you are confused...

LOL! I sent Umbertob's post to a friend who just picked up his RRS SC. When I finally talked to him, he said "cool, i'm glad that is fixed!" I reminded him that it's temporary, and he's like, "What?!!" Dude, read the whole thread.

Haha.

Confirmed! The code works on my 06 LR3 per the instructions. Very sweet!

Oooo... a ticket from the cyber police. I love those posts.

But to affirm the point of the post, today when my wife and I were trying to get to a b-day party of one of our daughter's friends, we could only make the address input when stopped or after "hacking." So the hack worked.

Thank you.

DVD Update killed the Hack

FYI, yesterday, I put in the DVD upgrade for the NAV system, and the Hack doesn't work anymore. Anyone figure out what the new diagnostic code is?
