Need Beach wheeling/camping advice. East Coast.

Hello fellow Rovers,
Im coming home from a hot/sandy deployment soon and would like to take my ******* a camping trip with my LR3. I live in Southeast PA and am looking for a place to do some camping and beach wheeling. I have heard of places in the Carolina's that allow this but am not sure. I am not new to camping but never got the opportunity to hit the beach except a few times in Jersey. Looking for recommendations/locations if anyone is in an area or has taken a trip themselves. The truck is sand ready with some nice tires, external air, power ect. Thanks in advance.

LOL ...am I that transparent? :)

I do not know of places where you can camp from your vehicle on the beaches, but there are plenty of places to drive down in NC. Some places will let you stay out all night, but you have to be fishing at the time...you can't just camp from the vehicle. Makes sense as they don't want everyone running down there for free lodging and crowding the beaches.

Check out these NPS camp grounds. All should be next to beach access. The Frisco one is very nice as the sites are well spaced and nestled among the dunes. I've never driven on the beach down in Ocracoke so don't know how the access is.

Note that there are a lot of places to drive on the beach down near Hatteras but with all the bird closures they aren't really long drives any more. You can go between a couple ramps and then you're getting back on pavement.

If you want to drive 12 miles on the sand and then be at a rental property that requires your 4WD, rent a house up in Carova, NC. It is a lot of fun up there and only accessible by 4x4. You'll find plenty of trails off the beach to explore. Houses come in all shapes and sizes and price ranges. Good fun.

No camping up in Carova either, though. Just north of Carova (the stretch of beach between Carova and Virginia Beach) does allow remote hike in camping. You can't drive on that stretch, though.

I KNOW SOMETHING!!! Check out the Outter Banks in NC. I have friends who live in Kitty Hawk and I've had my disco out there before. In the OUtter banks there is a town called Corova which ends into the beach and then you drive 4 miles on the beach to get to Corolla which is beautiful, not sure if you can camp on the beach, but I'm pretty sure you can camp on the beach at the Oregan Inlet in the Outter Banks(aka OBX). The Oregan Inlet is cool too, clear view into the Ocean, you can see boats taking off and it is really pretty and nice! Tell us what you decide or if you find some other place that looks cool! 'd love to know what you end up doing. I have pics on my website from my trip to the OBX http://www.LROffroad.com

Spent lots of time in Balad visiting contractors and turning in warranty equipment. Im a network admin/electronics technician and unfortunately im still over hear. This is my second trip and at least this time mortars are not a daily occurance. Im on Camp Taji this time around. I return home shortly.

Thanks for all the responses. I will be looking into Carova and OBX for the trip. At least if I cant camp out there, we can do some decent trails and do some hiking. Ill let you all know what up decided on. Again, thanks for all the help.
