Today I was replacing my LR3's Thermostat Assembly and just as I was getting in the bottom right screw in the Air Intake valve (which is near impossible to reach for me, if anyone knows how I can actually detach/reteach this easily please tell me) and I dropped a 6" Socket Extension I was using. It sounded as if it fell pretty far, but alas I couldn't find it under my rover or in the pans. This is a picture of where it fell, and it seems that it could of either fell one of two directions (I know not which way). What would be the best way for me to get this extension out, let alone even find the darn thing D: .

Did it fall into the T stat piping or into the air intake? If not, as in it just fell down into the engine bay I'd give up and let it work it's way down and out naturally. But I'd get a real bright LED light and maybe a strong magnet and give it one last look.

Yikes! I did a very similar thing when I was changing my thermostat assembly. Had to use one of these to fish it out:

It's a flexible pickup tool that has retractable fingers to pinch whatever you need to grab. They sell magnetized ones as well.

I don't recall what it was that I dropped, but I do remember thinking I wouldn't be able to get it back, as it had gone deep into the recesses of the engine. It took a lot of fishing before I was able to get it out. I remember thinking, why would they design the engine so that there are inaccessible areas where things could get stuck like that?

I bought one of those flex pickup tools at Home Depot that had an LED light on the end of it. Has come in useful countless times. But if you dropped it in a blind...damn, anyway you can get a small camera down there? Think of anything you can reach down with...web cam, go pro, secured cell phone, etc. Look around and make sure it isn't anywhere harmful.

Let us know where you find it!
