Hiya! I have a 1999 Disco with about 153k miles.
Here's the scoop. So, I took her (Betty, aka 1999 Disco) to the slopes for some skiing. She died in the parking lot and had to be jumped. Ran fine for maybe a week. Then she died again. I thought a new battery would do the trick because the current battery was about 6 years old. New battery in and a week later she died again. Had the alternator replaced and the fully charged battery was ready to go! Still didn't work.... Ok tested the new alternator and it was perfect. Battery was bad! Swapped out bad battery for a brand new battery. One week later.... Yep Betty had to be jumped again....
Things I noticed...
When I used the turn signals the SRS light came on and my aftermarket stereo started to go off and on. The gauge needles started to go a little crazy. The SRS light kept coming on and off. The overall power of the vehicle became sluggish. (I'm thinking because there is a drain on the battery power). I parked my Betty, turned off the power and attempted to restart and nothing! She wouldn't turn over. I had to power up the battery for about ten minutes and then drove her home. Currently she will not turn over.
I have read through some of the posts on electrical problems... scary.... does this sound like a starter problem??? Or could there just be a short in the system??
YIKES I need advice... I have a mechinic who is going to look at her but I wanted to be proactive.
Also is there a preferred battery for this vechicle?

99 D1 or D2?

Either way, I am betting on either a bad ground or a short. More than likely a bad ground since it lasts a week.

First thing I would do is check your cable connections to the battery, you can also check for voltage drawl when the engine is off by disconnecting the ground cable and using a volt meter or trouble light to connect the battery and the ground, then pull fuses one at a time and see when your usage stops.

I would start by just looking at the battery cables, they tend to corrode a lot.

Battery of choice is whatever battery your local store sells that you want to buy. No major differences, I personally do not recommend getting the high end expensive battery's it just isn't worth it.
