Power loss 2

96 se7 Disco. I had a local mechanic stop by to take a quick look. We definitely have only some of the cylinders running. The car is idling great, but only running on a few cylinders when throttled. Exhaust flow is decreased also, probably from the cylinders not firing.
Once again the problem began when the car overheated and was run for approximately 1 mile with the heater on full blast to get off the highway. Any more ideas???

Still sounds like you dropped a cylinder sleeve. Remember the Rover is an aluminum block, so it has sleeves for the pistons. When it overheats, the sleeve will overheat and cause the aluminum to expand causing the sleeve to shift position.

It is either this or you many have blown a head gasket.

When you got to where you were going did you turn your rover off right away or did you let it idle for a few minutes. They say the best thing to do instead of turning it off right away is to let it idle for only a couple of minutes so there is no seizure. Try putting your sniffer up to the exhaust and see if you smell anti freeze. Sweat smell of exhaust also check oil to see if there is any gewy white stuff in it or around engine to see if you are leaking anti freeze. All this will tell you if you have a blown head gasket. Your issue seems to be with your cylinders. Do you know which ones are not fireing?????????????
