Hello everyone, this is my first post on here as I just bought a 00 DiscoII last week. I appreciate all the great info that i was able to get on here before making my purchase. It's got everything i wanted... dark grey color, only 68k miles, brush guard, dvd player/tv, rubber rover floormats, jumpseats & well maintained. Anyways, i purchased this as my 2nd car (winter & off roading use) & I've heard people talking about installing a K&N Air Filter to improve Gas Mileage & hp. Is this something that alot of you have done? Is it an easy install? does this install really make a big difference? Thanks in advance & i look forward to your feedback.

A K&N will not do you any good, as a matter of fact it will not help any vehicle get better HP or Gas Mileage... sorry, but the K&N is more of a scam then the tornado add on. The only thing a K&N will do for you is cause the engine to wear out fast then is should.

Sorry if this burst yours or anyone else's bubble. The only thing that helps with fuel mileage is foot control.

The only thing that will help a LR with HP is changing the engine out or a CAM and rechip the ECU.

Joey,
Whats the problem with K&N and.....
Why does the K&N make the engine wear out sooner?

...also note - the K&N is known to possibly cause problems with the MAF sensor as well. No proof though. I would just simply avoid it all together.

IMHO

K&N and engine wear, since the K&N will allow more air due to the larger holes in the filter, it also lets in more dust and possibly sand, which will wear the engine out faster, since all this just goes right into the intake and into the cylinders.

As far as what Mudquest states, if you over oil the filter it will ruin the MAF.
