Hey all, has anyone sealed up their rear lower hatch with any type of sound deadening material? I'm getting too much exhaust sound from my muffler delete. I'm just trying to decrease the sound a bit for the rear seat passengers haha. I've thought about Dynamat, those square foam sheets on amazon, or just shooting some expanding foam in the hatch?....I would make sure to keep the rear hatch cable and locking apparatus clear from touching any of the said material. Anyone with such experience? By the way the sub in the hatch is disconnected so that has no bearings on any of this. I have a custom box built in the truck.

@jlach993 and Tribe,

Has anyone gone forward with this?

I ask because I am planning on a refurbishment of my tailgate as part of the great 2025 LR4 rebuild and was wondering if there were any lessons learned or advice.

I know that Waffle Square serviced his LR3 some time ago and installed some dynamat - see

But he never followed-up with his thoughts on the improvements.

Many thanks!

Following-up: any insights or lessons learned?

I should begin my tailgate rebuild relatively soon and we plan on using dynamat for the tailgate door for deadening.

Also, an interesting accessory I saw from the Team at Hyena Overland for the DISCO 2 (they are not carrying accessories for the DISCO 4 / LR4 yet) - https://www.hyenaoverland.com/store/p33/Land_Rover_Discovery_D2_Rear_Door_Black_Chequer_Plate.html#/

That probably doesn't help much with sound deadening and would need to account for the speaker back there (assuming folks wouldn't remove the speaker) but it is an interesting idea to put checker plates in lieu of some of the carpeted surfaces (just a thought).

Many thanks!

Tribe,

Following-up with this idea and @jlach993 's thread: I went ahead and completed sound deadening in the rear lower hatch as well as serviced/replaced the hatch assembly and performed the upgrade for a manual / pull opener.

There is lots of material of this upgrade online so let me know if there is interest in a new/separate thread.

Services: Replace tailgate switch, replace tailgate latch and cable assembly, replace driver side tailgate pulley, install Land Rover Passion upper tailgate (manual) handle, install Dynamat for sound deadening in tailgate.

However, I believe Lucky 8 also carries that part imported.
