When I press the button with my thumb to shift from Park to R or D, I have to drag hard to position. Thus only happens when it us below 35 degrees or close to it.
How do I get the shifter to move smoother?

Clean and adjust shift cable assembly before it breaks on you.

Where in the RAVE manual provides guidance to clean or should I crawl underneath and spray the hell out of it including from the console?

I had the Shift Cable replaced today (item: FTC566) and the shifter moves better but still not as easy as it used to move. Can there be a problem with the mechcanism on the transmission or is there something that needs lubricated?

Also, I notices that I can move the shifter from D to 3 without using the button. Is that normal?

D to 3 without button is normal. All else could be a bind in the linkage or needing a good lube.

No binding. Hit the lever with PB spray and now it shifts normal again.
