I have a 99 discovery and after a dealer oil change i noticed that a day later on a cold start the speedometer was not working, nor was the odometer, or trip indicator, and the vehicle was stuttering when the gas pedal was depressed. The car would pick up after a couple of seconds.
eventually both problems went away after the car was driving for a while.

I have also noticed that when the car is warmed up in the morning i don't run into these problems either.

Is it possible that a bad wire or miss-firing plug would cause either or both of these probs? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

I would be driving straight back to the dealership. I could understand if it were just a bit of stuttering. my cold engine runs a bit rough til it warms up also, but the question is why arent your gauges working...let the dealership undo whatever they did

Stuttering/Speedometer

Just had a Speedometer/Stutter problem with my '97 Disco. Turns out it was the Vehicle Speed Sensor (Speedometer Transducer). It is located in the transfer case and is accessed from under the vehicle. 5mm allen wrench bolt holds it in. I bought my replacement from www.atlanticbritish.com and it took about 20 minutes start to finish to change. Good Luck,

VSS is either going bad, or you need to change fuel filter or possible the fuel pump...
