SW Updates and TSB's for 2006 LR3

I recently bought a 2006 LR3 with 10K miles from a dealer, and it is CPO'd.

The tires were worn inside, and I got the dealer to replace the tires and recheck the alignment, under a Land Rover TSB.

I am a little concerned that the dealer might not have been too thorough in their CPO check - the tires were no where near the 75% they should have been.

Is there anything in particular I should have them check, or confirm that they have checked for my model year? Software or other TSB's in particular.

Alignment is a big one. The LR3 will eat tires if out of alignment (as will any 6000lb vehicle). Another big one is on the throttle tip in - when you are coming to a stop (like a red light) and it turns green right before you stop and you start to accelerate, sometimes the car will "clunk" in to gear. There is a SW bulletin out on this one.

There is also a problem with the sunroof drains clogging and allowing water in to the footwells.

Outside of that, most of the 2006s have these issues already taken care of. I'm betting you'll be fine - just stay on top of the alignment (and get some new tires outside of the Goodyears ).

Edit: I forgot the knocking in the steering column when going slowly over large bumps (it happened on mine pulling in to my driveway - we have those angled "curbs" at the base of our driveway for water control).

Thanks Rich! I seem good on everything else for now, except perhaps the throttle tip-in. It can be very jumpy at slow speeds.

Do you know if there are software upgrades also?

I have the bluetooth option, and it will not pull the phone book on iPhones. Another LR3 owner has told me there is an update for the software to address this.

Do you know if LR update the car's software as part of the maintenance schedule?

The throttle tip in is a SW upgrade. Not sure about others.

It is probably dealer specific. We have an awesome dealer, but they typically don't do the SW updates without being asked, or if there is a problem. It is sort of the old saying "if it ain't broke" - if the customer isn't complaining, don't mess with a good thing

That's awesome - I actually feel like the LR3 is fairly reliable (at least compared to most European cars which are always a little quirky). It just took them a bit to work out all the issues - by the 2006 model year I think they were getting pretty close to being good. And the 2005s are good too, assuming you've had most of the TSBs and updates done.

RIch - that's exactly what the service guy said to the sales person when I questioned the alignment problem a day after picking up my LR3.

When I mentioned the TSB specifically, and asked if they had addressed it when they certified the vehicle he shrugged and said "we only do it if the customer complains".

Not exactly the best approach to managing Land Rover's reliability reputation, but I guess as long as you know what to ask for it's all OK.

Thanks again for helping us all understand what to ask for. I'll ask them to take a look at any available SW updates next time I go in.
