Another vote for stock tyres being merely OK on road (soon suck ...) and pretty crappy off road in mud. They'll suck up soft mud in an instant and then the fun begins.

Like others here, I've only ever really got stuck in mud/bog conditions with stock tyres. Since swapping out the BadYears (to Nitto's in my case but there are plenty of other options today) I haven't been stuck once.

I have another use for the stock tyres though - in my case they're keeping my 19" wheels stacked & unscratched in the garage until I decide to maybe try the MTR's.

Well, if the TA/KOs are working for ya then that's great...probably really good for everyday use. I enjoyed the Goodyear MT/Rs today again. I would NOT want them for everyday use and use them for trail use only and they kick a$$.

Caveat: I STILL experience some rubbing in extreme situations even with the suspension mod. This choice is more for folks that want to hit the tough trails and don't mind ******* off the LR3's computers now and then.

Today I got a Transmission fault. I don't know why, and strangely, I didn't care. I rebooted when I could and that was that. Maybe a sensor didn't like the temperature or got covered with mud or something...I'm less sensitive. My suspension otherwise moaned and groaned today...but the D3 was pretty much unstoppable so it don't matter.

Thanks to all for replies and input. Videos were good to view as well, nathan. I'm in Socal, so I'll soon get out on a trip. Still have the stock Gys, so I'll have to wait a bit before trading out, but I'm judging the cooper and nittos are some of the favored replacements out there.

Join SCLR, you'll get out. Here are photos of a bunch of LR3's taken yesterday in Anza Borrego (lower coyote canyon)
