Hi Guys,

Hope you can help me out a bit.

I have a 2004 Disco 2 TD5 which I fitted a Tunit chip to at about 25,000 miles. The chip is set to two notches below maximum boost and always has been. At 110,000 miles the turbo died so I had a local landrover garage (not main dealer) supply and fit a new one. At 120,000 miles the turbo died again! I sent it back to the same garage assuming some sort of warranty replacement through Garrett but I had to pay for a new turbo and fitting again. It has now done 127,000 miles and the turbo failed again last night. Oil and filters were changed including the centrifuge along with the last turbo and oil pressures were confirmed as good when measured at the turbo. I really don't want to send it back to the same garage again because i've lost all faith.

Has anyone else suffered with repeated turbo failure and was there some other reason that you may have found for it? Any help is much appreciated

Thanks

Richard

Do you have a boost gauge to see if it is being over boosted? Do you have a blow off valve on the turbo? Do you let the turbo cool after a run i.e. idle for a couple minutes before shutting off the engine?

Hi,

I don't have a boost gauge at the moment but probably will with the new turbo. As for any kind of blow off there is only the normal wastegate. The turbo cools after each run but I do hear it winding down after I stop the engine - is this normal?

I'm really just worrried in case there may be something else wrong, most likely with the oil feed I suppose. Turbo's are expensive when they only last 7000 miles!

Sounds to me like it isn't cooling properly, I would say it is either got an oil issue, or someone isn't installing it correctly. Also why are they not rebuilding the turbo... it would be cheaper. Shoot all they are is a couple bearings and the blades.
