I have a 2001 land rover discovery SE and I just replaced the top radiator hose. But if I leave it sit overnight and start it up the next day, the temp gauge goes to half way and I can turn on the heater only when I've driven 10 min down the road. Is there anything wrong? The thermostat is good and I just recently replaced my water pump

Sounds like you have air in the system.

Fill the system again, turn the heater on full and let the engine warm up. shut down let cool down and refill as needed, this can take 3 or 4 cycles to get the system bled of air.
