Hey fellas- I am glad I acame across this post. I live in DC and trying to make a trip down to OBX or Hatteras before the summer ends. I just finished a camping trip and realized that I am in need of more storage... roof rack or hitch cargo attachement. I will also need some new tires soon... so I have been researching that as well. I have a 2015 LR4 LUX....
I'd appreciate any insight you can give me on what you have put on your trucks to support your outdoor lifestyles...
also the camp set up is awesome.. what did you use for the canopies?

You can't go the Hatteras Island for the next week - it was just evacuated because they don't have power currently. Looks like it might be restored soon though.

Or maybe you go down and camp and have an extremely peaceful week or whatever. There isn't going to be anybody on the island - would be awesome.
The front runner rack is a great rack - its pretty light and extremely low profile. I picked the front runner mostly because of the time table I had to get a rack (a week) and the prospeeed was going to take a bit longer to ship as its from the UK. I am very happy with the front runner except when I get going around 70 - 90mph (which is cruising speed on the highway as far as I am concerned) - then its loud. I am going to eventually have a windscreen fabricated from a local shop up here to see if that will cut down on the wind noise.
ALSO - the hardware that frontrunner sends you to attach the rack to the truck is garbage - I broke 4 of them when installing and went aftermarket instead - maybe I had a bad batch but I was not in a good mood by the end. Regardless its now been on for a year and I have loaded a lot of stuff on it and its worked great. I stand on it all the time getting stuff up there and its never a problem. So far so good.

Tires - I have the stock 19" rims so I just went with the goodyear wrangler duratrack - quiet on the road and handles everything I have thrown at them. I now have a nice gash in one but its a tire, it doesn't seam to mind. They look pretty cool on the stock wheels as well.
Here are the tarps / sun shades I bought for the beach that worked great - disclaimer - the wind was almost perfect everyday so they never sagged so we didn't have to use any tent poles - but with one truck you should just buy the retractable tent poles from amazon and some rope and anchor the poles in the sand opposite your truck or whatever.

ANYWAYS I recommend going to the OBX. Its awesome and even if you go in September its so worth it (and less crowded). And yes I love the rover. Amazing vehicle.

No, it's the darn dog in the back! If we weren't bringing her, all that stuff on the tray would easily fit in the back. Toys up top. Done! Now we do put electronics in the back with the dog...I don't trust the tray thaaaaaat much.
