I am picking up my new '08 LR3 this weekend and had a question...I would like to eventually replace the stock tires with something larger and more aggressive. I don't want to get carried away but wanted to know what people recommended.

I believe the 255/55/19 are standard on the HSE...what is the largest and/or larger recommended sizes I could change to without scrubbing?

Thanks.

There is almost nothing available in 19". Do all you can to get the 18's swapped on. If you get a line about speedometers and warranties and the like, it is all hooey. The 18" and 19" tire/wheel assembly have the same overall diameter. You will thank us later.
Hit the SEARCH button for exhaustive research on more aggressive/larger tires.
Personally, I like the 265/65R18 BFG All-Terrain.
Anyway, Good Luck at 'cha!

most dealers will swap as long as it's before you take delivery so that yours are "new". They usually consider it an "upgrade" to put your new 19's on the SE level trim LR3 that would have to be swapped with.

Next is to hope they have a used SE or some used lr3 that has 18's. I suggest either the 05-06 18's because the 07+ 18's are a little weird and harder to clean and get mud or snow out from behind.

The best 18's in my opinion are the oldest version, 5 spokes - like mine ;) See link below. (the 20's are sold and were temporary)

Lastly, you could keep your 19's for very good all-weather or snow tires and get a 2nd set of 18's. Just remember, if you are upsizing you 'ought' to also have a spare that matches, not the doughnut.

Thanks for the words of wisdom.

So is the 18" wheel the best choice?
Then, I plan to buy 265/65/19 tires...could I go any bigger or wider? Or is that a bad idea?

Word has it on a post from the Edmonds LR3 board that Pirelli is planning on releasing, in May 08, a more aggressive off-roading tire in 19" with the LR3 weight in mind. Here's hopin'!!

Sorry Josh, poor spelling! It's townhall-talk.edmunds.com, then SUV, LR, LR3 The info was contained in a post from March 16.
