Towing Question- RRS

First off- Thanks to all on the forum. I've learned a ton reading these posts over the last few weeks. I have a 2007 Range Rover Sport and will be towing an ultralite travel trailer (dry wt- 3800lbs) with emergency brakes but no surge type brakes. Driving in Florida so no hills. Maybe 3-4 trips per year of no more than 200 miles each way max.

The manual says not to use a weight distributing hitch. I have a Reese Heavy Duty Weight Distribution System. See here: http://www.etrailer.com/tv-weight_distribution_and_sway_control_install_ford_van.aspx

So what do you all think. This system is supposed to cut down on sway. Should I use this weight distribution system or not?

You will hear mixed responses to this, but my opinion is that you should use it and you will be safer for it. I would also use sway control with it. (that is if you have already purchased this)

If the owner manual for your Land Rover says not to use a weight distribution system then don't. It means the vehicle frame, the factory hitch or both cannot handle the stress that a weight distribution system must exert to function. Not following the owner manual can result in the manufacturer or dealer not honoring warranty claims.

If sway is a problem, there are sway control solutions available that do not require the use of a weight distribution system. They are friction based systems, not like the dual cam that I assume you have with your weight distribution system. This way, you have the added safety and driving comfort of a sway control system on the trailer, and still follow the owner manual.
