Down here in San Diego there are several. If you want a beginner area with plenty of moderately maintained trails, check out the Marron Valley truck trails area down by the border off of the 94.
Fore more challenges, you can check out Corral Canyon, which is in the Cleveland National Forest.
If the desert and rocks sounds like fun, there is Anza-Borrego State Park as well.
