transfer case woes....

hey i have an '04 disco SE7, when the dealer inspected the car before delivery, they said it would soon need a new transfer case. So a few months have gone by and its time for the first service, and the transfer case is going to be replaced. When accelerating, i occationally hear a high pitched wine, sounds like gear wine or somtin, does this have to do with teh transfer case? When the car is in low range, the wine is very loud and consistent.

Sounds to me like a load of crap. I find it hard to believe that a 1 year old vehicle needs a new transfer case, unless the previous owner ran it without oil. I assume from your post that you did not buy it new. Did you get any warranty with it? If we suppose that the transfer case did have a problem, why didn't the dealer fix it before he sold the vehicle to you? I suggest that you find an independant mechanic who works on 4x4's to have a look at it.

The car was previously a loner veichle for the dealership and i got it with 1200 miles on the odo. The part was replaced under warrenty. The dealer said that the transfer case did not pass their inspection upon delivery and it would be replaced at the first service. I got it back today. When i tried low range, the car got stuck in low range

It's a real pain in the ass when things like this happen. Take it back to them as an irrate customer. You can bet they will fix it, as they won't want to see you again for a while.

naaa i'm gonna be nice- i had a brand new LR3 as a loner for 6 days. GREAT car. what an improvement. Its incredible how they make it drive on road like a huge jaguar sedan yet it off roads better than a disco (yes, i beat the hell outta it)
