I have asked this before but didn't get a response. Hopefully there is someone out there than can and will help me out. I have a 97, 4.0 liter Discovery. From time to time and only once in a while, the vehicle will not go into overdrive. To correct the issue, I pull over to the side of the road, shut down and sit for about 1 minute. I hear a click noise from under the dash and then drive a way with no problems. Have had new filters, fluid, stripped down and vavles cleaned. any anything I can do?:

Thanks in advance

Remember Overdrive is an electrical thing... sounds like you may have a voltage or ground issue.

On a D1 it is a mechanical engagement not electrical like the D2's.
How many miles on the tranny, when was it last serviced, have you checked the fluid level, does the oil look brown or smell burned?
My initial thoughts, without having answers back from you, would be your govenor is hanging up.
Get back with your answers.
