On a 98 disco, replacing trans. filter and fluid, is that something I could tackle
myself? I'm guessing you drop the pan replace gasket, is the filter right inside?
and refill. It's been a long time since service was done soo I would like to do it
twice with shorth succession like people have mentioned. It might be a mess though.
Many of you do it?

I would have to double check, but I believe you have to remove the Y pipe for the exhaust to drop the pan.

Yes, usually the "Y" pipe and sometimes the cross member must be removed. How many miles since your last service, is the fluid brown or smell burned, if so consider doing a drain and refill with out a filter first, then drop the pan and do a full service with a filter, that way you will get rid of more burn fluid allowing the tranny to last longer.
