So i was stupid enough to put 87 octane gas in for a long trip and noticed the Disco started to miss between 80 - 100km/h. I made it into a gas station and filled the second half of the tank with 94 octane and put in some gas treatment. This seemed to help. 2 days later the truck is idling very low and the check engine light has now come on.

Any ideas guys?

What code is it throwing? I would bet you got bad gasoline. Did you fill-it-up while the tanker was there? Although I had the same thing happen after getting gas and it turn out to be bad spark plug wires. It was just a coincidence that it happened just after filling up.

Check the codes and get back to us. I am betting you are throwing multiple cylinder misfires.

1997 = OBDII = Go to Checker/AutoZone/Whatever and have them read the codes OR buy an OBDII reader. Plug it into the port on the driver's kick panel to the right of the steering wheel.

Just FYI, i use 87 all the time (2001 disco II) with no ill effect so far. about every 3rd one I put in 89, and once in awhile I put in some 93. Just be sure to keep up with the Sea Foam or Chemtool.

i have thrown some fuel injector cleaner in with another full tank of 94 octane and she seems to be running smoother. Is it possible for the check engine light to go away on it's own?
