What does the BCU actually control?

Hello all! I'm new to Land Rovers and am considering buying an 04 for my wife. I have heard that there have been many instances where the bcu and ECU will pitch fits in these cars. So my question is: how do the bcu and ECU work together, and what individual functions do they each respectively control?

Is there anyone who has created a custom ECU that puts everything on to one board?

First D2's are not known for having bad BCU's or ECU's.
Second, you can mot go out and have a custom ECU made as a fix all.
What does the BCU control, practily everything.
