I am ready to buy an LR3 HSE, but the state I live in (SC) has all its LR dealers owned by same person - and they sell at MSRP. Other dealers will discount, but LR requires they be resgistered in their "teritory". What gives with this policy?

No, LR will only allow dealers to sell in there "teritory". Because car will be registered in SC I can only buy in SC.

I live in NC. My local dealership is also an MSRP dealer. In some ways it's kinda nice. The price is on the sticker -- if you can afford the car, you buy it. No arguing and haggeling with the sales people. It was much less stressful than when we bought my wife's car from another dealership.

LR can't say that you can't buy a car in the next state. They can say that the dealer in the next state can't seek you out, but if you walk in and offer to buy a vehicle if LR stops the sale due to some "territory" issue then they are likely in violation of federal law.

I had a deal on the table with a LR dealer in Boise, despite having an HSE on order with Seattle LR last year.

I'm not a business lawyer, but I don't think sales territories are illegal. It is done all the time, including a software company I represent. The software company, and I assume the car dealer, can specify the territory the product is registered in.

Often in MSRP sales situations, you can negotiate add-ons at a reduced price or even free. I think an extended warrantee, 7 year/100K mi., would be a good one. It would add to the resale value, too.

That's bs, man this is the freaking USA, you're free to buy a car where ever you want. That's just a load of bull. Go buy somewhere else. That's what this country is based upon, a free market.

I live in Long Island where all the LR dealers are owned by one person. We were about $1000 apart in price and they let me walk out. I ended up buying my car at LR Manhattan because they met my price.

I thought the country was started to avoid taxation without representation...
