Yes, I have tried that and all appeared fine. If i can recall...sitting idle was about 12.45v, when I started it, volts drops momentarily to around 11v or so, once started it is around 13+ volts. I was wondering, is it possible to spray starter fluid on these LR3's, like we use to do to carburetor cars?

What do you mean , it reads 13+ volts?. Good working alternator should pull, under load, at least 14.25 and up...A brand new battery should read 12.60( six cells, each cell 2.1 volts=12.6.your alternator might be failing slowly , if it is only above 13 V, that is too low, as it should produce almost two volts more, when working ..just a thought...

I'm confused, if it always cranks and sometimes doesn't start and the battery is new-ish, and was tested, why look at the battery, or the starter for that matter?

i will retest and gather the correct votages.

i read on the forums where a faulty or cracked battery could read 12v but cause startup problems among other weird things.

I seem to remember reading that its a bad idea to put any additives in these cars, it has a chance of messing up the mixture ratios
i just wanted to spray a little starter fluid into the engine to test if my fuel pump was getting gas into the engine. Of course i wanted to test this when the engine didn't start.

Truck started this morning, but decided to put my scanner on it even though Check Engine light was not on. Well, for the 1st time i see P0628 - Fuel Pump Control Circuit Low. Is the fuel pump easy for an amateur like me to get to? If not, I will take it to the shop.

I grit my teeth and took my truck to the LR Dealership. Finally, they were able to see the trouble and diagnosed it as a faulty cam shaft sensor. The damage to my pocketbook is only $325 or so. thanks to everyones suggestions.
