Bottle Jack

I'm looking to replace the standard jack in my LR3 with a bottle jack, has anyone done this and if so which model did you choose/does it work well etc... I've searched the forums and found some discussion on this but there doesn't seem to be any definitive answer on which bottle jack is the best to use.

I bought a 6 ton bottle jack from Home Depot after my factory scissor jack broke. The bottle jack is MUCH easier to use than the scissor jack, but it is not perfect. In particular, the model I have doesn't go high enough to lift the LR3 from the jacking points. I end up having to put blocks of wood underneath the bottle jack to give it extra height. I can get around this by jacking up the car from the control arm, but a different problem occurs when you later lower the jack. The vehicle ends up "grounding" it self on the jack, and you have to raise the air suspension to get the jack out.

Overall, I think the bottle jack is better than factory scissor jack, even with the above mentioned problems. The factory jack is way too fragile and slow.

Do you have a manufacturer or model number? I'd be interested to know the maximum lift height of the jack you bought, I have seen some which go up to 19 inches and I'm wondering if this is enough lift to get the wheels off the ground.

It looks like the maximum lift height is 16.25 inches. I don't know if 19 inches would do the trick. Perhaps if you used your old scissor jack and measured, you could come up with the answer.

It lifts over 19". I have this jack and it can pickup my BFG's off the ground by lifting off the frame.

Naw you are mistaken. The 4 ton has a 2 in shrter base and lifts almost the same height. better for tight offroad conditions.

The link you posted on the 4 ton shows it only has a 15 3/8" lift height, whereas the 6 ton shows a lift height of 19 1/8". My only concern with these jacks is that they might slip off the frame when lifting since they are flat on top.

I stand corrected, you are right. I must have gotten my specs jumbled as I was looking at both.

The 6 ton is the way to go.
