I have exactly the same issue. I actually attempted to contact them via email when I first noticed it, which was while my battery was still barely within warranty, and they did not respond. I had continued to use it and carry it inside the truck but I'm done with that now. It's been getting worse and I believe it is now dangerous. Seems like maybe this product wasn't really designed properly for storage in a vehicle.

Just checked my XP-10 and it is fine still. But we just had the same thing happen to my daughter's SONY DVD player battery. Puffed-up like a tick and popped out of the unit.

There are other Amazon posts about fakes being shipped as well. I would still try and make contact with Amazon. They are world class for returns / customer service. Especially if they are shown in a bad light shipping fake products in their name.

Agreed on Amazon's return policies but I no longer trust their product specs. Recently bought a 35mm lens that stated "USA version" in bold type. Once received, checked the serial number with the manufacturer and it was grey market with no warranty. Promptly returned. Amazon is the Wild West of retail.

Considering the issues with Amazon sourced product, I now prefer to go directly to a supplier vs. trust Amazon's long list of retail outlets that many times are not cheaper.

I avoid any 3rd party sellers on Amazon like the plague. I only go with "shipped and sold by Amazon".

I just found my receipt. I bought my battery on NewEgg.com
I have sent a message to the seller and we will see if something happens or not.
I wish costco had something comparable Their return policy is second to none. I saw a guy returning some pool chemicals he bought few years earlier.

Better-late-than-never follow up... My Micro-Start today (after spending a little less than 2 years in my car)... ...I am not so sure it would be safe to use now that it has "bloomed" out of the protective case - Li-Ion batteries can easily catch fire / explode if accidentally perforated, and that blue plastic peeking out of the case looks very tender and just waiting to be accidentally perforated... Of course, Micro-Start's warranty is only 1 year. I assume the heat in my car may have caused this, and it does get hot around here... But what is the point of a compact jump starter for emergencies if you cannot store it in your car at all times? I will pursue a warranty claim with my credit card company (which doubles the mfg warranty, thankfully), but a word of caution about Micro-Start: great device when it works, but find a better quality manufacturer if you can, or at least one offering a longer warranty. There should be quite a few new players on the market by now.
You should update your YouTube video with some comments to this effect. I just saw this thread pop up, started at the beginning, watched the video, and was on my way to Amazon to buy it! ...when I decided to check the end of this thread first. :)

It's clearly a product that is capable of jump starting cars, but not designed for the harsh environment stored fully charged inside a hot car. I agree with an earlier comment that despite what the marketting says, they can't get past the physics of the chemistry of these batteries.

If you could take that into account, it'd be nice if you could replace just the battery every 18 months or so. Maybe if you could get the battery alone for $75, it'd be worth the cost. Insurance for a down day. ?

Yup, that's how I store my Mavic Pro's batteries. They actually self discharge to 50% or so if you don't use them for more than 10 days.
Ahhhh...I picked up a Mavic as well. Aren't those things a pile of fun! Love flying that thing.

So, an update. My XP-10 just popped its case. Called Microstart and they advised to download and complete the warranty form even though it is 3 years old for a deal on a new one. My problem is I have no receipt and cannot remember where I bought it even. I know it was right after the flurry of posts here on XP-10, probably in 2015 or early 2016. They also said to use it at least every three months to prevent swelling and not to overcharge. Guess that means not to leave it on the charger after four LED’s

If that's the state of the art with this kind of battery, then I guess you do what you have to. As they say, take care of your gear and your gear will take care of you. It's not the buy and forget/emergency-use-only magic bullet that some may think. Good info until something better comes along.

I just bought the HD version and will just watch it carefully for swelling. I live in Vermont and have 2 yrs on the original LR battery and feel better with this thing in the back.

The battery on my house back-up generator is dead (has been for years) and it didn’t start after a few hand pulls on the recoil starter. I used the XP-10 for the first time and it worked just as it should.

Yes, the new manual indicates the upper temp is 43 degrees C.

Thank you, I appreciate all the warnings and will be extra careful.
