Cool, but what year is this? The taillamps and fender flares look like LR3/D3, but the grill and front bumper seem like that from an LR4/D4.

BTW we also spent an afternoon in Bellagio and it was fantastic.

Europe got some poverty-pack commercial editions we didn't see. Looks like it also has 18" wheels.

Well, it is a maintenance thread.

Mine goes in tomorrow for poly bushings in all control arms, new upper/lower ball joints, new rear bearings, new rear toe links, new rear wheel knuckle bushings(couldn't find a poly option for these), new rear sway bar links, new control arm hardware and stainless steel brake lines.

I've already changed the front/rear sway bar bushes, front wheel hubs, front sway bar links and tie rods, so this should freshen everything up suspension wise except for the actual air struts.

Wasn't really having any issues, but it has been 45K miles on the front lower control arms, and the others have never been touched so I figured it was about time at 90K.

I thought for a few minutes about doing it myself, and then decided I didn't want a Rover in pieces in my garage for the two weeks or more it would likely take me to do it myself.

I just got back from a family vacation in Italy and it was cool to see the carabinieri rolling the streets in marked up LR4s (2014+ models).

Fortunately, I only saw the exterior of these vehicles while there.

See what they call the LR4 in Europe. A "Discovery 4" that is being made to date for Europe.

What?!? Maintenance thread? where? Anyways, it’s all interesting stuff...it’s crazy that these are emergency vehicles in Europe.

avslash,
Did you do all of this merely as preventative then? If so, what guideline were you going by, if any, and if not what symptoms were you experiencing? I’ve replaced plenty of these things on my own and they are usually easy to do, that was on a rusty-ass Armada! Only had to use had to use a sawsall once :) My rover is fairly rust free so I’m looking forward to doing maintenance on it.

Well, the thread title has "maintenance" in it...:)

I did the lower control arms on mine the first time at 43K miles because they were clunking like crazy. Those arms now have 46K on them. Not hearing anything yet, but I can't imagine those factory bushings have much life left at this point.

I'm just doing all the other ones while it is there, and to have a consistent set of bushings on the truck. All the other items are wear items that have a finite life, so I'm just doing it all at once. Even the soft brake lines have a recommended change interval on these things. All of the other wear bits on the suspension (other than the struts themselves) have already been replace by me.

Few things would **** me off more than to change rear control arm bushings and then have a 90K mile bearing go out a month later and necessitate taking the thing apart again.

I justify it to myself because the truck is long since paid off, and I don't really ever plan on getting rid of it, so keeping up with bits and pieces as I go along is the plan. I'm hoping to get 100K out of these bushings based on talking and reading on the net.

I think I have about $1,200.00 in parts and I expect another $1,200-$1,500 in labor for this go around. I will share what my indy charges me when I get it back, but it might be a week or two.

I'm also having him change the DMTL pump while he has it apart. Truck is throwing a "small leak" OBDII flag, and that and a gas cap are supposedly the most common reasons for that. It was cheap at $65.00.

Why say it is crazy that we are using them for emergency vehicles?

I recently bought a 2013 which has 240000 miles on the clock it is a ex police motorway patrol vehicle which has spent most of its life cruising up and down the motorway at around 60 mph and would have been serviced on the dot and anything it required it got with no expense spared except for one tyre losing pressure by 5 - 10 psi over a week or two I am very happy with it.

Forgot to mention that I live in Forest Town Nottinghamshire (near Sherwood Forest what is left of it) UK
