Is Land Rover -completely- doing away with purely internal combustion engines? I'm fine with hybrid and electric options but I personally would never want anything to do with any of that.

find a brand that isn't moving towards that... the powers that be have decided that this is what we want regardless of other options.

Is there one? It seems like every major company is. I don't think electric is particularly reliable, especially offroad. I like gas engines and I love diesel engines. It's a shame we've got these engines to be so clean, efficient and reliable only to try to phase them out. A two ****** leaf blower emits about 10x what the average gas burning car does nowadays.

i agree and i believe hydrogen would have been the better option but the people who are smarter than us have decided for us.

in this region the politicians are already banning or discussing the ban of gas powered leaf blowers, mowers, snow blowers etc.
our landscaping company has already switched to 56v landscaping equipment because of it.

Yeah. I don't think they're smarter than us. I hope Land Rover(and other companies) figure this out before they ruin what's fun for all of us.

Just curious, what region are you in?

Land Rover is a global company, and there are cities in the globe that are beginning to phase in a combustion engine-ban within city limits. Hence the plug-in hybrid drivetrains that allow a 30 mile range on electric only.

I'm cautiously optimistic regarding the ingenium engine. Land Rover has proven to be fairly decent reliability-wise over the last 15 years when it does a wholesale redesign on something.

The diesels are still straight combustion though, aren't they?

If I could get a diesel, that would be fine. I'm sure there will be a EGR delete for it at some point. I'm sure some European countries and a few of the California cities are all in on it. If that's the case and I ran Land Rover, I'd sell just they hybrids and electric cars there and sell hybrids, electrics and combustion engines elsewhere. I don't think the whole world should have to comply with a few cities that got woke.

Here's what looks to be an entry-level spec test mule with what looks like 18" steelies.

My mind immediately wonders if the 18" Defender wheels would work on an LR4.

In some markets at least, you will be able to pick between coils and EAS (whether coilers make it to North America remains to be seen... based on previous LR models, such as the Disco/LR3, probably not.)

I'm hoping there will be a lot of customization with regard to the options, but I fear they'll offer the things I want only in packages with several things I don't want, and the bare-bones off-road focused Defender I dream of won't be possible.
