I'm actually with you on the diesel L405 - I like the l405 design, much more so than the d5 discovery. That, and I think diesels make more sense for trucks this size. I just wonder if it's possible to get a diesel l405 with any factory off road equipment(low range, etc).

I believe all L405s have low range.
The only L405 you can get with a rear locker, however, is the supercharged V8. In true Land Rover fashion, the brakes on the supercharged V8 are such that 20" wheels barely fit--I guess it's so tight that Land Rover doesn't even offer them from the factory, and you've got to "proceed at your own risk" yourself.
So, in summary, you have an engine that people who offroad would want, a rear locker that people who offroad would want, but you can't get them both together. Further, you can't go any smaller than 20" wheels--if that--if you want the rear locker.
If that isn't Land Rover in 2010's, I don't know what is.
With the diesel or the SCV6, though, it seems like you get the same brakes as are on the D5. Meaning, you can get Compos to fit, and I'm guessing the Evo Corse wheels would fit, too:

Bad news is there are next to no off-road accessories for the L405. No sliders, no bumpers, etc. I'm hoping that will change as they trickle down the market, but who knows.
